A Summary of the Vision
CMS Mission Community House ~ creating space for God’s mission
244 - 246 Iffley Road OX4 1SE
What is it?
The house is a Christ centred place for a multi cultural community of people, guided by the Holy Spirit, who choose to live a shared life under God with shared discipleship, and commitment to mission engagement with others.
What is the purpose?
The mission-hearted community will exercise and demonstrate (and contribute to resources for) a Christ-centred life that’s committed to the wellbeing of others.
The aim will be, individually and corporately, to go further on their mission journey, discovering their gifts and releasing each other into ministry.
People in the Mission House
- will be active with fellow community members in developing their discipleship;
- will join in the life of people around the Mission House in a Christlike way, working
- for the wellbeing of their community/communities;
- will be active in enabling others to do the same where they are.
The pattern of life in the Mission House will develop as a flexible model for communities, families and individuals who want to live a missionfocused life that incorporates shared worship, work, witness, ministry, study, recreation and prayer. Equally it will draw on the wisdom and experience of others following Christ and engaging in his mission.
Who will live there?
We envisage a core community who are committed to being part of the community for several years, and then some others who might be there for a year internship or a few months stay. There will be a mixed economy in the house with some members in full time employment and others working in mission locally and employment part time and then some full time volunteers.
What will it offer?
- A place of regular accessible prayer life that provides fuel for mission engagement
- Eating and praying together
- Christ-centred commitment to the surrounding community
- A place of thinking and enquiring (reflection) as well as base for action
- Contemporary Christian living with sustainable environmental and ethical values
- Multicultural community living
- A community which feeds and draws on other CMS communities (or houses) in Oxford, UK, internationally
- Space where potential CMS People in Mission (PiM) can begin to experience CMS ethos & welcome
- Space for mission life and action to flourish
- A living expression of CMS core values and commitments.
