Dr Wim carries out general surgery, eye operations
in the new eye theatre and eye-health outreach within the community. He is training local people and has a passion to start providing eye care in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo – an area ravaged by war with very few medical facilities.
Dr Bertha works in the highly-acclaimed rehabilitation
centre. “Recently, Mileé came to the rehab centre… an angry, frustrated 4-year-old blind girl…she has become a little more sociable, allows one to touch and hug her, is interested to learn new things and movements and s
ometimes her face lights up with a lovely little smile. She still only says one word and walks only with support.”
